We are looking for a technically strong and commercially minded Technical Procurement Specialist to support sourcing, supplier development, NPI, and production activities at our facility in Braga, Portugal.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Braga, Portugal .
The Technical Procurement Specialist will be responsible for sourcing and procurement of technical components, materials, equipment, and manufacturing services required for customer projects, NPI, R&D, and serial production.
The role requires the ability to understand engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, technical requirements, and manufacturing processes and translate them into effective sourcing strategies and supplier requirements.
Working closely with Engineering, NPI, Supply Chain, Production, Quality, and suppliers, the Technical Procurement Specialist will ensure the right technical solution is sourced at the required quality, cost, lead time, and availability.
Responsibilities
- Source technical components, materials, equipment, tooling, and manufacturing services for NPI and serial production.
- Review BOMs, drawings, specifications, datasheets, and technical requirements to understand procurement needs.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop suppliers for mechanical, electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components.
- Source machined and fabricated parts, mechanical components, electronics, PCBs/PCBAs, connectors, wiring, sensors, motors, actuators, batteries, fasteners, and other technical components.
- Prepare and manage RFQs and obtain competitive technical and commercial quotations.
- Compare supplier proposals based on technical compliance, quality, cost, lead time, capacity, and supply risk.
- Work with Engineering to clarify specifications and ensure suppliers fully understand technical requirements.
- Support supplier selection and technical qualification together with Engineering and Quality.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, tooling costs, payment terms, and other procurement conditions within assigned authority.
- Support NPI projects by sourcing prototype, pilot, and pre-series components within required project timelines.
- Identify long-lead and critical components early and develop sourcing or mitigation strategies.
- Identify alternative components, materials, suppliers, and manufacturing technologies where appropriate.
- Coordinate technical evaluation and approval of alternative parts together with Engineering and Quality.
- Support make-or-buy assessments and supplier/manufacturing capability evaluations.
- Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, cost, and technical capability.
- Support supplier audits, production readiness reviews, first article inspections, and corrective actions.
- Work with Quality to resolve supplier non-conformities and technical quality issues.
- Work with Planning and Supply Chain to ensure component availability supports production schedules and customer demand.
- Support Engineering Change implementation and ensure procurement requirements are updated accordingly.
- Maintain accurate supplier, quotation, sourcing, lead-time, pricing, and procurement information in company systems.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, supplier consolidation, localisation, and supply-chain optimisation.
- Develop relationships with strategic suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Support procurement of production equipment, tooling, test equipment, and technical services.
- Ensure procurement activities follow applicable company procedures, quality requirements, confidentiality, security, and export-control requirements.

What We’re Looking For
- Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, or another relevant technical field.
- Experience in technical procurement, strategic sourcing, engineering procurement, supply chain, manufacturing, or a similar role.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, BOMs, technical specifications, and component datasheets.
- Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, electronic, or electromechanical components.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and their impact on cost, quality, lead time, and supplier selection.
- Experience preparing RFQs, analysing quotations, and negotiating with suppliers.
- Ability to evaluate suppliers from both technical and commercial perspectives.
- Experience sourcing components for prototype, NPI, or production environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good commercial awareness and cost-conscious mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple sourcing activities and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong communication and supplier-management skills.
- Practical, hands-on mindset and willingness to work closely with Engineering and Production.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-growing environment where suppliers, processes, and supply chains are being established from the ground up.
- Good English communication skills are required.
Nice to Have
- Experience in aerospace, defence, electronics, robotics, automotive, industrial equipment, or advanced manufacturing.
- Experience sourcing components for UAV, UGV, USV, UUV, robotics, or autonomous systems.
- Experience with electronics, PCBs/PCBAs, sensors, communications equipment, batteries, motors, and embedded systems.
- Experience sourcing CNC-machined, sheet-metal, injection-moulded, composite, or other custom-manufactured parts.
- Experience with contract manufacturers, EMS providers, and international suppliers.
- Experience with supplier qualification, audits, First Article Inspection, and production readiness.
- Understanding of configuration management, engineering changes, and component traceability.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP and procurement systems.
- Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, AQAP, or similar quality systems.
- Understanding of export control, controlled technologies, and supply-chain security.
- Experience developing European or Portuguese supplier networks.
- Portuguese language skills.
