Large scale offshore and energy projects do not deliver themselves. Behind every successful project of that complexity is a team that is well led, well coordinated, and working to a consistent standard across every discipline. If you have the technical background in E&I 3D design and the leadership experience to make that happen, this role is worth your full attention.
Company Information
Our client is a specialist engineering organisation delivering technically demanding offshore and energy projects including large-scale offshore wind, offshore platforms, and innovative hydrogen developments. Their E&I design team works on some of the most complex and consequential projects in the European energy sector. Technical excellence, disciplined process management, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement define how they operate and what they expect from the people who lead their teams.
Vacancy Information
As Team Lead E&I Design, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and optimising all E&I 3D design activities across multiple projects simultaneously. You will oversee the entire E&I 3D process from resource planning and progress monitoring through to quality assurance and deliverable sign-off. You will work in close consultation with project leaders, lead designers, and other disciplines to keep projects on track and to the required standard.
Beyond day to day coordination, you will play a key role in improving and standardising 3D work processes across the discipline. You will initiate optimisation initiatives, encourage automation, and ensure that working methods, templates, and best practices are applied consistently. Model reviews, audits, and quality checks are part of your remit, as is contributing to knowledge retention and continuous improvement across the team.
This is a leadership role with genuine influence over how the discipline operates, not just how individual projects are delivered.
Key Responsibilities

- Coordinating E3D activities in close consultation with project leaders, lead designers, and other engineering disciplines.
- Drawing up resource plans, monitoring project progress, and actively making adjustments based on performance and KPIs.
- Overseeing the quality of all E&I design deliverables and ensuring that designs meet specified requirements and applicable standards.
- Driving improvement and standardisation of 3D work processes across the discipline, including the development of uniform working methods, templates, and best practices.
- Initiating optimisation and automation initiatives and ensuring their consistent application across the team.
- Organising and leading model reviews, audits, and quality checks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contributing actively to continuous improvement and knowledge retention within the E&I design discipline.
What You Need
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in E&I 3D design with at least 3 years in a leadership role within E&I design.
- Demonstrable experience with E&I 3D design of offshore platforms and electrical HV substations.
- Extensive hands-on experience with E3D and Navisworks in a project environment.
- Strong knowledge of the E&I design process and the E3D modelling process with the ability to oversee and guide others through it effectively.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary projects with a genuine desire to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
- The ability to plan realistically, manage competing priorities, and ensure deliverables are met on time and to the required standard.
- Proven leadership capability with the ability to take responsibility, provide clear direction, and bring people along with you.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage clearly and professionally across project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
If you do not meet every requirement but have a strong E&I 3D design background and genuine experience leading engineering teams, we still encourage you to apply. The right combination of technical experience, motivation, and willingness to grow can make you a strong candidate.
