Role Overview
The Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive occupational health and safety (EHS) programs to ensure a zero-harm workplace. This role focuses on maintaining strict regulatory compliance, conducting regular site audits, and mitigating operational risks across all phases of project design, construction, and facilities management.
Working closely with cross-functional project teams, contractors, and site operations, the incumbent will champion a proactive safety culture. They will translate complex safety standards and local environmental laws into actionable site procedures, managing incident investigations, risk assessments, and safety training, while ensuring all activities align seamlessly with enterprise risk management policies, local legislation, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Program Implementation
Assist in implementing and maintaining workplace health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs.
Site Inspections & Risk Assessment
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
Compliance Monitoring
Monitor compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Incident Investigation
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and support corrective and preventive actions.
Training & Awareness
Coordinate safety training, inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs for employees.
Documentation & Records
Maintain safety records, reports, permits, and compliance documentation.
Emergency Preparedness
Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response activities.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
Track and report HSE performance metrics and recommend improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
Education
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
2 to 5 years of experience in health and safety coordination, preferably in construction, industrial, manufacturing, or infrastructure environments.
Regulatory Knowledge
Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
Risk & Incident Management
Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
Hazard Control
Strong understanding of hazard identification and control measures.
Reporting & Documentation
Proficiency in preparing reports, maintaining compliance documentation, and using MS Office applications.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Influence & Collaboration
Ability to influence safe behaviors and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Certifications
Relevant HSE certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) are preferred.
